DOPAMINE MAKEUP
While the fall and winter shows usually bring a moodier aesthetic, fashion label Anna Sui showcased an incredible Fall 2023 collection where bolder beautiful beauty looks took centre stage. Makeup artist Pat McGrath worked hard to reference the collection and mix with her own creativity and style. Amidst the beauty trends spotted at Anna Sui, we could see wild eyes bordered on neon and coloured mascara, too. The creative designer got inspired by The Peppermint Lounge and the ‘60s. “The makeup is a reflection of the era’s bold and vivid fashion sense, with an explosion of colour and tantalising textures,” says team Pat McGrath.
PALE LIPS
At KGL and Coach Fall 2023, pale lips took centre stage with a focus on nude lips to create a simple, edgy and chic look.
VIVA MAGENTA, FLORAL ACCENTS & BOLD LIPSTICK
Fashion label Christian Siriano showcased its Fall 2023 flower-themed show, featuring hues of glossy pink, red and purple lipstick, accentuated by strong contour lines. The Viva Magenta Pantone Colour of the Year was also present. Lacy Redway, Unilever stylist and celebrity hairstylist, also said regarding hair looks, “Christian’s collection is stunning. It feels ethereal and romantic. We were inspired by the hand-crafted floral accents found throughout the collection to echo this in the hair by creating a rose-like twist, with a ‘stem’ of hair weaving down the crown of the head, meeting the rose-like bun in the back,”.
GOTH “WEDNESDAY” MOOD
For this Fall 2023, creative designers put much effort into creating extravagant darker beauty looks inspired by “Wednesday”. Darker hues had their moment during most runway shows. Fashion labels Rodarte, Sandy Liang, and Proenza Schouler showcased their latest Fall 2023 collection, giving goth-inspired looks on the runway. Models wore essential makeup to portray the mood: dark lipstick, dark nails, and heavy eyeliner. “The collection is more fairy than goth, so we really wanted to do strong and bold makeup and linear eyeliner eyes with a dark black or blue lip,” says NARS makeup lead James Kaliarados. “I think a lot of girls I know really want to look like this, so it’s not totally costume or fantasy – it’s really something people want to be a part of.”
NATURAL HAIR LOOK
For this Fall 2023, Proenza Schouler got inspired by the ‘Portraits of a Woman’, which encompasses different moments of life: walking, jogging, work, meeting friends, or any other simple moments. “Their beauty and realness are enhanced through a few select hair products to bring out their way, genuine and natural sense of selves.” Says Guido Palau, who worked on skin and makeup, keeping the whole vibe glowy, dewy, and natural, with no makeup, no brow product, and minimal coverage.
