Stars Shone Brighter Than Ever At The Oscars 2023

All the must-see looks from the not-so-red carpet at the Oscars 2023.

Ana de Armas

Going through a great awards season, the Oscars 2023 is finally here! And, for the first time since 1961, the ceremony’s traditional “red carpet” wasn’t red; instead, it was “champagne”. The 95th annual Academy Awards, which is considered the biggest night in cinema, brought big-name nominees and presenters to the red carpet outside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles to enjoy the pre-show entertainment. The event was hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel – the third time he has taken on the role of host. Leading the nominations were fashion films, such as Elvis, Tár, Everything Everywhere All at Once and The Fabelmans. While Cate Blanchett, Ana de Armas, Andrea Riseborough, Michelle Williams, and Michelle Yeoh were nominated for Best Actress, along with Austin Butler, Colin Farrell and Brendan Fraser, nominated for Best Actor.

In honour of the year’s best film performances, Hollywood’s biggest stars paraded in white point-toe gowns, bringing glamour to the ceremony. And, of course, with Fashion Week in the rearview mirror, the fashion stakes were higher than ever, with the most eye-catching looks on offer. Florals and sequins were the big stars of the night, as were big statement capes. Cara Delevingne and Angela Bassett provided highlights with their billowing gowns, while others donned lingerie-inspired bustiers and corsets. Florence Pugh was the star of the carpet when she arrived in a dazzling look from Valentino’s spring 2023 couture collection in a puffy top and black shorts. “A little bit romantic, a little bit punk, wearing shorts, I’m doing it,” Pugh said on the red carpet when asked to describe her Oscars attire.

ANA DE ARMAS

The actress, nominated for her starring role as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde and who competed in the same Oscar nomination as Cate Blanchett, was one of the stars of the night on and off the red carpet and did not disappoint, exuding elegance with a very special dress. However, far from choosing extravagant and flashy designs, she preferred to go for the formula of less is more. The actress opted for a custom-made Louis Vuitton dress, starring a champagne colour that almost mimicked the tone of the carpet. A dress with a very tight body with thin straps and a rounded neckline and a mermaid cut skirt with a ruffled tail that had a clear flamenco inspiration.

FLORENCE PUGH

If there’s one actress we can count on to make a dramatic and glamorous red carpet-appearance, it’s Florence Pugh. The actress wore Valentino Couture on the Oscars 2023 red carpet. Her look included a nude-coloured strapless top with striking puffed off-shoulder sleeves and a long train wrapped around her on the carpet floor. While the top may initially seem like the most eye-catching piece of the outfit, the most striking element was the pair of black mini-shorts underneath.
