MET Gala 2022: The Best-dressed at the Most Glamorous Gala Event

The Met Gala is back — and from the guest list to the red carpet, this year’s ball was bigger than ever before.

After several pandemic-related delays, the “fashion prom” returned to its traditional venue on the first Monday in May 2022, with “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” as the evening’s theme, “golden glamour” as its dress code and a coterie of A-listers available to co-host, including Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Regina King.

What does “Gilded Glamour” mean?

Well, there are many possible interpretations. Gilded Glamour was a period of excess for those who were able to succeed: the wealthy who shamelessly overindulged in all aspects of their lives, especially when it came to clothing. It was a time when “new money” and “old money” collided with excitement and passion for technology and the future.

While everyone rocked it at this year’s Met Gala, we wanted to take a closer look at the dresses and attire that hit the spot on fashion’s biggest night.

Check out some artists that perfectly portray the theme of the gala.

GWEN STEFANI

Gwen Stefani turned heads in this stunning lime green Vera Wang combo, which featured a bra top with a ruffled skirt and matching gloves.

SOPHIE TURNER AND JOE JONAS

Jonas wore a women’s white tailcoat and black and white lace top from Louis Vuitton’s spring-summer 2022 collection, while Turner pulled from the archives, a long-sleeved embroidered dress that she wore with white gold and diamond earrings from the Louis Vuitton High Jewelry collection.

BILLIE EILISH

Billie Eilish stole the red carpet wearing a custom Gucci ‘fit complete with a corset, seafoam green lace sleeves, and a cream-coloured train. Although this was only her second Met Gala appearance, she managed to snag the crown for fashion’s biggest night.

SARAH JESSICA PARKER

The actress’ look at the Met Gala 2022 paid tribute to Elizabeth Keckley, a woman who made history as the first African-American fashion designer in the White House. It was a voluminous, strapless dress, with sleeves with bows, and front buttons signed by Swarovski. Parker worked with her designer and based it on one from the 1860s that consisted of a cape with a black and white plaid dress underneath.

HARRIS DICKINSON

The British actor with crossed pants and flowered shirt.

A less classic look, but that perfectly reinterprets this year’s dresscode. Attention to the jewelry on the shoes.

VANESSA HUDGENS

Vanessa Hudgens arrived at the event in a sheer black Moschino dress that covers her from neck to toe and has lace detailing around the chest. But what really makes the look are the large puffed sleeves that add a great amount of drama and elegance to Lady Danbury’s style. Hudgens completed the styling with stunning jewelry from Messika.

SHAWN MENDES

High collar and high heel on your boots: the winning combo of our time. Shawn Mendes wore a Tommy Hilfiger wool and cashmere blend coat in custom jewel-tone, fine wool turtleneck tuxedo with a single button and navy blue crossover with a wool lapel.
