Gucci Cosmogonie Resort 2023 Inspired By the Starts & Magical Myths

Alessandro Michele chose a castle in Castel Del Monte, in the Italian region of Puglia, to present Gucci’s cruise collection.

For Gucci’s latest collection called “Cosmogonie”, the creative director Alessandro Michele found inspiration in the constellations. He showcased his latest collection, presenting garments with details, which were a clear reference to the stars and magical myths.

“Cosmogonie” or “Cosmogony,” translated from French, refers to the study and history of the universe, a lofty goal that only a designer like Alessandro Michele could take on as the theme of his latest Gucci collection.

“If any thinker was able to hold together things so distant in time and space, rearticulating them into bursting constellations, it was Walter Benjamin. To this man, who could not survive without his quotes, my gratitude,” said Michele.

The show took place in a magical and impressive location, set in a 13th-century castle. Its inspiration came mainly from the late German philosopher and eclectic thinker Walter Benjamin.

“His remarkable ability to illuminate otherwise invisible connections made Benjamin a paragon of constellation thinkers,” the designer wrote.

“A term he turns into a philosophical concept. What may seem, at first glance, atomized and scattered like the stars in the sky, through Benjamin’s eyes becomes a set of complicities, a connective structure that illuminates the darkness through the epiphany of a constellation.”

“I was looking for a place that would give grace to the mythological,” he explained. “It’s a place where measurements and proportions intersect as if by magic, in the same way, that the measurements of collars and jackets can somehow be magical.” For Michele, the mystery of Castel del Monte resonates with the enigmatic genesis of his creativity, “which operates through the need to bring together constellations of signs and symbols.”

The collection featured jackets and skirt suits with hats, high-necked evening dresses with rhinestones and midi-cut coats. The looks included vintage-inspired lace, sheer details, shiny capes, fur trims and striped motifs in the brand’s signature red, black and red colours. Accessories ran from oversized, retro polarized sunglasses and pearl necklaces to thigh-high lace-up boots and patent leather opera gloves.

And it’s not a Gucci runway show without a few (or a whole front row of) celebrities in attendance. Great friends of the house like Dakota Johnson, Elle Fanning, Jodie Turner-Smith, MÃ¥neskin, Mark Ronson, Paul Mescal and Lana Del Rey were on hand to light up the Italian night sky with their stardom.
