Fendi Presents a Stunning Resort 2023 Collection Next to Marc Jacobs.
Bella Hadid, Kim Kardashian and Sarah Jessica Parker were among those celebrating The Baguette’s 25th anniversary at the brand’s New York Fashion Week show.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of their iconic Baguette bag, Silvia Venturini Fendi and Kim Jones moved from Milan to New York Fashion Week to present Fendi’s Resort 2023 collection. To properly acknowledge the milestone, Fendi atelier sculptors Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi arrived on the scene, the place where the bag’s position in pop culture history was sealed, New York City. The debut featured special collections from Marc Jacobs, Tiffany & Co, Sarah Jessica Parker and Porter.
“I didn’t want to do a traditional ‘collection’ for the anniversary. It’s more of a celebration of an era, of the time when the Baguette became famous. I relate that era to a sense of freedom in excess and fun, qualities that the Baguette possesses,” Kim Jones, Fendi’s Artistic Director of Womenswear, stated in a press release.
Marc Jacobs created ten looks, playing with logomania, including FendiRoma in block letter intarsias on sweaters, tracksuits and trucker jackets, while Tiffany & Co enriched Baguettes bags with silver charms and even created a Baguette crafted in solid sterling silver.
“There are a lot of depressing things going on in the world, so I thought it was good to have a little fun. I wanted to combine those three things (Fendi, Marc Jacobs and Tiffany, editor’s note), and it’s quite playful and festive, ” Jones said.
Tiffany & Co applied its diamonds over the double-F logos on the bags, while Jacobs’ contributions were seen in the graphic logo he recently used on his own morca, only with the word Fendi spelled out, instead of Marc Jacobs. Finally, the show included a collaboration, which is still ongoing, with Japanese brand Porter.
“Reinventing an Icon: the #FendiBaguette appeared on the runway in New York City in varying dimensions as an emblem covering sweaters, parkas, and skirts to emphasize the classic yet modern nature of the house staple.” Posted Fendi on its Official Instagram Account.
Jacobs chimed in on Jones’ sentiment, stating: “I’ve got one word: Fendiroma. And it is one word! It is another land, this Fendiroma… And I’ve got two words: The Baguette. It’s a bag – and I am never one to shy away from an iconic bag.
Amidst the center of cultural masters (artists, actors, musicians and global ambassadors from all walks of life), Kim Kardashian, Sarah Jessica Parker and Naomi Watts sat politely at one end of the front row and Shalom Harlow and Kate Moss at the other.
